God provides a sign of the covenant as a reminder of the privileges and obligations of the covenant.

The gospel frees us to fight sexual immorality and to celebrate sex within marriage because we no longer need to live for ourselves.
The gospel frees us to view our current state, whether married or single as a gift of God whose ultimate purpose is to point those around us to Jesus for his glory and their good.
